Students and professors from D. A. Tsenov Academy of Economics took part in the 8th International Conference and Summer School of ASECU Youth


Students and professors from D. A. Tsenov Academy of Economics took part in the 8th International Conference and Summer School of ASECU Youth. The event was organised by the University of National and World Economy and dedicated to the 100th Anniversary of its establishment. ASECU Youth International Conference and Summer School are organised on a regular basis and this year’s topic was “Sustainable Development Goals 2030: Challenges for South and Eastern European Countries and the Black Sea Region”. The event was held in Ravda from 15th to 20th of September 2019.

50 students and professors from 13 universities from Albania, Bulgaria, Greece, China, Romania, Russia, Turkey and Hungary took part in the conference and summer school. The team from the D. A. Tsenov Academy of Economics was represented by Violina Kirilova (Bachelor’s degree student, Major “International Economic Relations”, 4th year of study) and Victoriya Bazhinska (Bachelor’s degree student, Major “International Economic Relations”, 4th year of study and Major “Finance”, 3rd year of study), who prepared their papers under the supervision of Head Assist. Prof. Galin stefanov, PhD and took part with presentations in student’s panel “Ecological Dimensions and Innovations”. Also, professors from the Academy contribute to the forum by lecturing and moderation of the panels “Health, Education, and Broader Studies” and “Sectoral Studies”.

In addition to professors’ lectures and students’ presentations, the programme of the international conference and summer school included various social, educational, cultural and entertainment activities.

As part of international conference and summer school activities, ASECU Youth General Assembly and elections of the new Board were held. Violina Kirilova was elected as a secretary of ASECU Youth Board.

During the closing ceremony of the event, the five best students’ papers nominated for Tsekouras Prize for Young Economists were announced. The best papers were nominated by the professors’ commitee after the review of students’ papers and presentations. Among the nominees was Violina Kirilova and her paper “Impact of the Level of Economic Development on the Generation of Plastic Waste within the European Union”.

The winner of Tsekouras Prize for Young Economists will be defined after a blind review of the nominated papers by a tripartite committee appointed by the Board of ASECU, as well as a presentation at the 15th ASECU International Conference, which will be held in Novosibirsk in 2020.
