Official Award Ceremony Concludes the International Hackathon “Inherit the Past. Code the Future” in Svishtov
With an inspiring award ceremony held in the hall of the Youth Center – Svishtov, the fourth international hackathon “Inherit the Past. Code the Future”, organized within the European university alliance KreativEU, officially came to an end. For three days, the D. A. Tsenov Academy of Economics became a crossroads of culture, artificial intelligence, and modern economics, bringing together 23 outstanding students from various countries and European universities under the motivating motto “Inherit the Past. Code the Future.”
After an intensive and sleepless 24‑hour marathon, the five international teams – symbolically named after letters of the Glagolitic alphabet – presented their completed software and business solutions for the digital transformation of the history and cultural heritage of Svishtov and the region. The young innovators impressed the audience with concepts ranging from interactive AI avatars and virtual realities to predictive proposals for sustainable tourism and cultural routes.
The team presentations attracted exceptional interest. Among the audience were students, university lecturers, teachers, and pupils from Svishtov’s schools, eager to draw inspiration from the digital solutions of the future. The projects were evaluated in detail by a distinguished expert jury, including proven specialists in culture, archaeology, software architecture, and data analysis from leading companies such as Lidl Bulgaria, A1 Bulgaria, and Econt Bulgaria.
The prestigious awards for first, second, and third place were officially presented by Assoc. Prof. Marusya Smokova, KreativEU project coordinator for the Svishtov Academy. In addition to the main prizes, all 23 international participants received attractive product awards and two special prizes provided by Lidl Bulgaria.
Special recognition was also given to the organizers, mentors, and volunteers for their tireless work. Members of the expert jury, along with the dedicated mentors and volunteers who guided the students throughout the technological marathon, were honored with official certificates. The organizers expressed gratitude to the director of the Youth Centre, as well as to Deputy Mayor for their institutional support and hospitality.
The event concluded with a productive feedback and reflection session led by Assoc. Prof. Aleksandrina Alexandrova. During the session, participants discussed the future development of their prototypes and celebrated the new international friendships formed. With the successful completion of this hackathon, the D. A. Tsenov Academy of Economics once again demonstrated that economic science and cultural heritage can work together effectively to build intelligent, sustainable, and connected European cities and regions.
