Academic Library Bearing The Name Of Academician Nikola Mihov
The Academy of Economies' library was established in 1936, when the Higher School was opened. The personal books of the Benefactor, about 400 volumes from various branches of knowledge, served as a basis of the library fund.
The cosmopolitan Academician Nikola Vassilev Mihov took an active part in the establishment of the library and worked in it for about 14 years. He organized the supply of extremely rich economic literature in Bulgarian, French, German, English and Russian and of all the important reference books and encyclopedias.
The Academic library provides for the entire library and information service of the academic staff and the students in their research and study activity. It possesses over 200, 000 volumes of books and a little more than 22,000 volumes of periodicals in Bulgarian and foreign languages.
The library is connected to the Internet and the Intranet of the higher school, which affords opportunities both for individual information search in the library database created in 1992 and for joining in a net with other university libraries. Books are exchanged with other similar libraries in the country and abroad. There is also interlibrary book lending.
In 2003 the library was entirely renovated and made a comfortable place for readers to work in. It has new and modern computers and copying machines with new software, which allows the automating of all library processes in accordance with the modern technological requirements of the library service and electronic search. The library is staffed with highly qualified library personnel and management.
